The best litter pan is usually the trangle kind the fits in the corner of the cage. Ferrets prefer to "do their business" in a corner by backing up to the corner, so wait to see which corner your fuzzbutt likes and put the litter pan there {this is also the quickest way to litter train them}. Try to use a litter that is recomended for ferrets (my personal choice is Yesterday's News as it is made from recycled newspaper) as some kinds of litter can cause health issues or (in the case of the sandy kind of litter) your fuzzy might like to play in it. Don't be surprised if he thinks the pan is a new bed, this is normal, I have 6 males and they all have gone that route. It might be a good idea to have more than one pan especially if the cage has more than one level.

Most ferrets I have met prefer the large square ones. The corner ones are too small for them to fit their whole bodies into

How do you house break a ferret?

Unfortunately, ferrets are as keen as cats to use the litterbox. If they have to go, they go. The first step would be training the ferret to use the litterbox in the cage (use a ferret safe litter like paper pellets, not cat litter). Usually restricting the ferrets space is helpful because they do no like to poo on their sleeping area or their food. Be sure to use a large square litter pan. Do not let them out of the cage before they have used the litter box. Keep placing them in until they go. The same theory goes for training around the house. Place a few litterboxes around the room so your ferret can choose. When they have to go, it isn't fair for them to have to run all the way across the room. Moniter your ferret carefully. If he starts backing into a corner to go, grab him and place him in the nearest box. He may try to jump out but be consistent and keep placing him in the box. Once he goes in the box, be sure to give him lots of praise, or even his favorite treat. Never punish a ferret for accidents, this is cruel and can cause agression. Clean up any accidents with an odor removing cleaner. Natures Miracle is a good one. If you notice your ferret going in a particular spot, you may want to place a box there as well.

How deep should the cat litter be in the litter pan?

It can be as deep as you like; it only needs to be deep enough to completely absorb urine and to keep the cat from exposing the bottom of the pan when it scratches in the litter. A good ballpark would be two to three inches deep for an average-sized cat.

How would one sanitize a cat litter pan?

You should minimal clean your cat litter pan 2 a week, and you can use cat friendly desinfect. You should also shovel your cat his poo immediately after he is done. So the litter pan stays cleaner.

What kind of litter can you use for a ferret?

When choosing a litter for your ferret, It is recommended to use litter made specifically for ferrets. == == It is best not to use cat litter for ferrets. The dust from the litter can cause respiratory illness. Instead use Marshalls ferret litter, or Yesterdays News litter. Some ferrets may ingest the cat litter causing bowel binding. If you have no choice but to use cat litter, try to get 99% dust free litter. Do not use clumping litterAvoid Corn cob litter. It can add to respiratory problems due to dust, and some ferrets ingest the corn cob pellets and get intestinal blockages. Corncob bedding is not recommended as it harbors mold, is not digestible and can be a source of intestinal impaction if swallowed. Corncob litter and plain newspaper are not very absorbent and therefore will not absorb odor well either. Avoid clumping kitty litters and clay, as these may become stuck in a scooting ferret's rectum and expand, potentially blocking it up, and if they accidentally ingest any it will cause blockage in the stomach AVOID cedar; it has volatile oils that can cause lung damage. Pine is a problem for those ferrets who are allergic to it or those who drag in it too much, but otherwise the beads made from pine sawdust are alright. Litters made from things like recycled newspapers or recycled cardboard are among the ones that are safe. They can, but some litter that is clay based and has dust should be avoided. So, your typical cat litter should be avoided, but some of the alternative ones that are so easy to find these days, such as the wood based, recycled newspaper are fine. You can also use litter made just for ferrets or wood stove pellets (a large bag can run $4 or so at Lowes, but they're usually a seasonal item) Is it true that clumping kitty litter is bad for your ferret? Do not use clumping kitty litter for ferrets, it is a potential hazard that could lead to a painful death. Ferrets scoot after using the litter box, and could cause the litter to enter the rectum, where it can expand and cause blockage. Also if a ferret accidentally ingests clumping litter, it will also expand is the stomach and cause blockage.Litter made for ferrets or cheap kitty litter (like clay). Avoid litters that clump or made of cedars or pines.

What do you do when there's no cat litter?

I use wood stove wood pellets. A forty pound bag costs around five dollars at Home Depot or Lowes. My cats love it. It gradually turns to sawdust in the litter pan but it takes a while. It coats the feces when they bury it, so the litter pan is always pretty clean.

What does it mean when your rabbit stops using the litter tray?

the litter pan is probably to dirty for him to get into it, but if it isn't what i do when my rabbits stop getting into their litter pan and it's not dirty is i move it to a different part of the cage and they start getting into it again. so maybe put it in a different spot and clean it. if your rabbit doesn't use it after this he could be sick.

Is a ferret good for middle class?

Ferrets make wonderful pets! They require time and attention, as most pets do. They are good for any animal lover who is willing to care for them, play with them and do some damage control. Ferrets will get into a lot of trouble if given the chance. They can fit under furniture and under doors and reach places that may not be safe for them. Therefore, you'll need to watch out for your ferret and keep it safe. Ferrets are a lot of fun. They will play with you as often as you are willing to play. They do sleep a lot when they are not being paid attention to so working a long day will not be a problem to your ferret as long as it is kept in a large cage or ferret safe room with food, water, bedding and a litter pan.
