It depends on what you call a good paint - There are lots of different brands around - some cheaper and some more expensive. In the end of the day you get what you pay for.

You get a cheap paint - It might go on fine but wear out a lot quicker and not be half as washable. You want a paint that has maximum washability, Low VOC and is still reasonable priced. Check to see if it has any guarantee as well.

One of the reasons that you can get cheap paint is how it is made. Paint simply put is made up of pigment and binder which in this case is water. So better quality has lots more pigment while cheaper has lots less and more water.

Most of the water however evaporates when drying. This means that in effect you are left with a thicker coat on that better quality paint as it has more pigment and therefore less evaporated.

So most paints - even the cheaper can be used as a quality paint however then way more coats need to be applied. Which means that you are better off getting the quality paint as it means less labour and usually better washability.

I would personally recommend the Dulux Wash and Wear 101 for interior walls. This is a premium paint with superior hiding power and washability.
