What is the best pet for a 11 year old?

It really depends on your lifestyle and what you want in a dog which would fir into your family.

The Italian Spinone is a lovely dog with kids. The breed is becoming better known in the US and UK now. Spinone are medium sized dogs who love exercise but equally love to be a couch potato. They have an excellent temperament, love children and are very easy to train.

A dog Because Dogs are loving and they will bark if there is any one comming....they are easy to take care of and there is a bunch of fun ! :)

A dog is a lot of work if you get a puppy. Please don't think it's simple. The only way it'd be THAT easy is if mom and dad do all the work for you. Dogs need a lot of attention, must be brushed, walked, fed, played with, and trained. They are great companions so long as you're willing to do all of those things.

If you're looking for a small pet (and are permitted to have any of these), I'd recommend any one of these:

-Guinea Pig: Very sociable, quite cute, easy to handle (if you get a young one. Some are squirmy), not likely to bite- also you can have two together (two boys or two girls only, unless you want babies, and I wouldn't recommend that!)

-Rats: (Don't make that face :P I have two of my own) These hardly have an odor, are very smart, easy to handle, very sociable, love to be held and played with, can eat a variety of foods, and can also be housed with other rats of the same gender. They also don't usually bite (best to get them as babies, but adults usually do well) They also come in a LOT of different colors! Boys are calmer, girls are more active

-Bearded Dragon: Calm lizard, easy to care for, requires crickets/mealworms/greens as the main diet, can be held and are content to sit with you for long periods of time once they get a bit older. Baby Beardies can be a little ...squirmy and active, but with proper handling, they'll get used to you in no time.

-Betta Fish: Well...it's a fish, so you can't really hold it. But they come in a lot of great colors. Male fish are the prettier ones with long flowing fins. They can only be kept in a tank alone, or with non-aggressive community fish like Tetras or Plecostamus. Very easy to take care of. Also smart. They recognize their owners and can be trained to come up for food by tapping the top of the tank/bowl (lightly!!) before dropping their food in.

-Leopard Gecko: A little more flighty than the Bearded Dragons, but have a lot of the same benefits. Also, they come in a lot of different colors. :)

I disagree with both i say that the best pet to have is a mouse or a rat if you are looking for a small pet and if you want a big pet, cat or dog depends on your personality. you should get a cat if you are quiet and if your athletic and active you should get a dog.

Either a Winter White Dwarf Russian Hamster or a Dwarf Rabbit (preferably from Pets At Home because the rabbits there are used to people) (also at pets at home the hamsters are £8.50 and the rabbits are £24) xx

It might seem wierd but I am 11 and I know exactly what to get and why.... For an 11 year old a dog is perfect, they teach responsibility and care. The breed is totally up to you, it depends on what your family. Start with a PUPPY for sure, grown up dogs wont last as long!

I personaly think the Leonberger is a perfect dog for a child of any age, they are so large but gentle. Their nick name is "the childrens dog"
