When placed outdoors the high pitched tinkling of wind chimes can be very disturbing to anyone who is sensitive to noise, especially on warm summer nights when people like to keep their bedroom windows open to catch the night breeze. The owner may love the sound but many neighbors do not. They can really disturb an insomniac who is trying to relax the night away and get some rest. The more wind the louder the chimes ring and they can carry throughout the neighborhood, especially during the night when other background noise is reduced.
