Aluminium is tricky to paint. The metal forms a skin that the paint has a hard time sticking to. On top of that, bikes are hard to paint to begin with. The paints you can apply at home are all softer and more prone to flaking/chipping than the industrial paints.

If you insist, go to a yacht supply store and get yourself an etching aluminium primer. Brand isn't that important, but it has to be etching.

The best bicycle is generally one that fits your body and riding style. Check out the excellent essay on frame sizing by Sheldon Brown in related links.

What is the best kids mountain bike?

Well, as with any bicycle, the "best" is going to be something you piece together yourself. No one manufacturer puts the best of every component all together on one frame. Also, what may be "best" to one person may not be best to another. Probably the best out-of-the-box kid's MTB is going to be the Kona Stuff 2-4. It's a 13" frame with 24" wheels. It's got a 7005 Aluminum frame, Marzocchi shock fork, FSA cranks, Alivio grouppo.

What is the best primer?

There is no "best" primer. It would depend on the condition and surface you are priming and what you are top coating the primer with,

Choosing a Patio Umbrella?

When searching for the perfect patio umbrella, don't forget to consider the frame. Most umbrella frames are made from either wood or aluminum, and each type of frame has different advantages. If weight and portability are important, an aluminum frame might be best, whereas nothing beats the natural beauty of a wooden umbrella frame.

Where is the best place to purchase paint for aluminum siding?

To paint aluminum siding you must first use a primer on the surface so the exterior paint will adhease and not just flake off in a few months. These can be bought at Home Depot or Lowe's.

Does your paint have a primer in it or do we have to purchase seperately?

It's always best (for the best quality) to paint with primer first, then your regular coat of paint. Let the primer dry sufficiently.

What is the best paint for an aluminum boat?

The best paint for an aluminum hull boat is one that adheres tenaciously to the aluminum, while providing friction reduction for increased speed and lower fuel consumption. I encourage boat owners to apply a primer coat for increased durability and for a strong chemical bond with the aluminum substrate. A friction reducing, low drag, hydrophobic topcoat is ideal for most aluminum hulled boats. In my experience, the best primer and topcoat for aluminum hulled boats are manufactured by Wearlon, a company out of NY. Easy to apply and touch up, with low VOC and a water based formulation so there are no worries about cuprous oxide and the EPA. Your marina will get off your back while applying these products, because there is no risk of water quality issues. Wearlon products can be found at the link below.

What primer can you use on yellow?

What paint would paint alumimum and wood siding equally well?

If it is bare aluminum and wood siding, they need to be primed prior to painting. The best primer for aluminum is a water based primer like zinsser's bulls-eye 123. The best primer for the wood siding is an oil-based primer such as zinnser's cover-stain. You want to use a water-based top-coat on both surfaces to give it better color retention, and durability through harsh weather conditions. If it is already painted, sand down parts that are coming off, pressure wash the surface, wait 24hours to dry and paint again. Remember, the paint you topcoat it with is only as good as the coating underneath it.

What is a benefit of making bicycle frames titanium?

Titanium has three really big advantages. It's very stiff, but at the same time it absorbs road shock. More important, when a titanium frame fails it fails by bending. Stiffness is a big one. A stiff frame doesn't flex when you push down on the pedals. A frame that flexes absorbs some of the energy you put on the pedal, which means that some of the energy you could have used to move the bike down the road is being used to flex the frame. Meaning you don't go as fast as you could have with a stiffer frame. Titanium and carbon are about equally stiff, followed by aluminum then by steel. Shock absorption is another big one. No one wants to ride down the road feeling every piece of gravel. Steel and titanium frames absorb shock the best. Aluminum barely absorbs shock, but carbon? Oh man, a carbon frame will let you know if there's a crack in the pavement. Failure modes are, to me, the most important reason to NOT buy a carbon frame. Now understand, bicycle frames rarely fail, but when a metal frame fails it bends. When a carbon frame fails it breaks, and dumps you on the ground at speed. People have broken bones this way.
