Mewtwo by far.
Well, I'll tell you my team. It consits of only 4 Pokemon BEFORE THE ELITES. But I deleted its save data...

Charizard: Is totally worth going through the first gym for.

-Fly

-SteelWing

-Flamethrower

-Hmm... I had Cut, but try SunnyDay for me. Solarbeam does only 1/4 damage anyways.

Nidoqueen: VERY helpful. Try Nidoking too, but I prefer defensive and female. Since I am too ^^" MAKE SURE IT HAS POISONPOINT. It will save one of your move slots.

-SludgeBomb (Only obtainable post-game. I used PoisonSting before this, but there are better placeholders.)

-Dig

-RockSmash (...Helpful...? Try another fighting move for me... Plz?)

-I forgot... But try a move that raises your stats or lowers the enemy's. If your Nido doesn't have PoisonPoint, use this slot for poisoning.

Raichu: Catch yours at Viridian Forest. This Pokemon is a sure powerhouse. I don't suggest the RainDance+Thunder combo because it will raise the enemy's water attacks too. (Watch out for Lorelei!)

-Thunderbolt (Good attack power, Good PP.)

-ShockWave (Save that TM Surge gave you... This will help hit evasive enemies.)

-Flash

-Strength

Vaporeon: Is the best Eeveelution. Has bundles of HP and a good variety of moves.

-AuroraBeam (Your only defense against dragons in this team.)

-Surf (useful in double battles AND an HM.)

-I'd suggest Haze here. Or RainDance, suggesting your enemy's NOT and electric type that knows Thunder...

-Again, the above, or another offensive move, like Waterfall (all the power of Surf, but hits only 1 opponent at a time... Kinda useless.), or WaterPulse is nice. (Hits hard and has a chance of confusing the opponent. Save the Misty TM!)

I had a worse team (with bad movesets). Raichu's is the only moveset that I actually had on my team. But be sure to try these. Better moveset. Use corresponding nature (that I didn't know either...!).

Each type has it's own advantage and disadvantage.

Fires types; The fire type in Pokemon leaf green charmander evolves into a flying/fire type charizard and he is extremly strong. Most fire types are better in the long run, but at the first two gyms, (Ground/Rock and Water) a fire type is not very good. Charizard is great because it can learn a strong and helpful HM Fly.

Water types; The water type in Pokemon leaf green squirtle is very strong also when it evolves and has good attack and defense. Water types are nice, for the whole game but aren't amazing when it comes to the elite four. Water is very useful for the first gym, and it is great for learning a useful HM Surf.

Grass types; The grass type in Pokemon leaf green bulbasaur is strong when it evolves it learns great moves for catching legendary Pokemon like sleep power and also strong moves like solar beam. Grass is decent in the elite four, and Venusaur can't learn any strong HM's but it is a very strong Pokemon.

I would tell you choose whichever you want, but to be honest I would rate them like this 1st: Fire 2nd: Water 3rd: Grass but they're all fun to use.

It's bulbasaur because , have a look at the gyms when you use bulbasaur

-1st gym -advantage

-2nd gym-advantage

-3rd gym-adavantage-

-4th gym-equal chance of winning or losing.(unless you have a fire type eg.pick up a vulpix near lavender town)

-5th gym:get a ghastly from the pokemon tower and train it to level 40 you will have a haunter at level 25 and ghost types are super effective on psychic types)

-6th gym:poasion types are weak against grass types.

_7th gym:use a super rod to fish for a staru then train it a bit and use a water stone on it to evolve it and teach it surf and water pulse or another water type eg.vaporeon or just a really strong pokemon on your team.

-8th gym:Advantage!

And there you have it! Bulbasaur IS the best kanto starter for fire red, leaf green ,red, blue, yellow and green.

Well I chose Treeko. If you do so you will have trouble with most of the gyms. But the elite four will become simple.

Otherwise the choice of best starter is entirely up to preference (but i heard you like Mudkipz)

The technical best starter is Bulbasaur, but here's the type match-ups for all the major battles anyway (Going of of their typing); Brock's Pokemon are weak to Bulbasaur and Squirtle, but resist Charmander. Misty's Pokemon are weak to Bulbasaur, but resist Charmander and Squirtle (Squirtle resists Misty back) and also are strong against Charmander. Lt.Surge's Pokemon are strong against Squirtle, Charmander's final form Charizard, but are resisted by Bulbasaur. Erika's Pokemon are weak against Charmander, and Resist Squirtle, and mostly resist Bulbasaur too but bulbasaur also resists them. Giovanni has a Pokemon that resists Charmander and is strong against it and is weak to both Bulbasaur and Squirtle but his others (for now) are neutral). Sabrina Is neutral against them all. Koga's Pokemon are neutral against Charmander and Squirtle, but are resisted by Bulbasaur, (Fun fact Bulbasaur and family can't be poisoned!...Like all poison types).Blaine's Pokemon are strong against Bulbasaur, resisted by Charmander and Squirtle, but weak to Squirtle.

Finally, Gym Giovanni's Pokemon are all either neutral or weak to Bulbasaur, Weak to Squirtle, and are either neutral or resist Charmander. All are strong against Charmander, but loose half of their effectiveness against Charizard, however Charizard becomes 4 times weak to some of them. Lorelei is weird, because all of her Pokemon except Jynx are neutral towards Charmander due to a secondary typing of water. Though Jynx is weak to Charmander. Also, Charizard is neutral to Ice attacks because of flying, While Charmander/Charmeleon resist them, but Charmander is half-weak to Lorelei because of water. Jynx is neutral to Bulbasaur, but her other Pokemon are weak to it. Squirtle both resists and is resisted by Lorelei's team. Bruno has two Pokemon (namely Onix 1 & 2) that resist Charmander and are strong against Charizard, but are weak to both Bulbasaur and Squirtle, while his others are neutral to all, Except if Charmander is Charizard now his fighting types are weak to that. Agatha resists Bulbasaur, is neutral to the others. Lance's Pokemon resists them all. I didn't include the rival as his team is designed to deal with the Starter you choose, as he always ends up with a grass, water, and fire type anyway. So, total score; the bigger the number the better (Calculated by adding number of major battles the starter is strong against plus what they resit, subtracted by how many their weak to): Charmander: -2 (with Charizard included) Squirtle: 5 Bulbasaur: 7
