I tried that a few times but I kept running out of Pokemon/potions so I tried something new, and I know it sounds hard to believe but I caught my Azlef at FULL HEALTH with no cheats and with a lvl 26 Noctowl (I never use him except for flying lol). I gave my Noctowl a swift claw which came with a sneasel that I caught which allows the Pokemon to ocassionally attack first, I used hypnosis and got lucky because it actually affected him. Then I used a Quick Ball and he was caught.

∙ 12y agoAfter galactic grunt drains the lakes and u defeat them u need to go to veilstone city. go to the galactic warehouse and make ur way to the top. when you get to the top you will have to defeat one of the comanders. after that you will be able to let the three lengendary Pokemon out from captivity. when you get the hm surf, go to Lake Valor and surf to the middle of the lake where a cavern should be. go inside and battle azelf and then capture it then u have azelf!
before you go to the cave you must go to the top of mt.coronet and beat dialga\palkia.

∙ 7y agoThe easiest way (Besides the Master Ball) is to bring its HP to red or yellow, then paralyze it or make it fall asleep (Make sure it wasn't during an Uproar) and use Dusk Balls instead of Ultra Balls. This greatly improves the Catch Rate, but not a 100%.

∙ 12y agoDO NOT USE YOUR MASTER BALL! You should really use some net balls because palkia is part water right? well net balls catch easy against bug and water types
just get it in the red zone then through a couple i caught it on the first shot

∙ 14y agobeat seven gymleaders and then fly back to veilstone and go to the galactic building then you will see a guy talk to him he wiil give you a key then find the ware house and you press a on the door it will open then find another key and in the building there will be telepoters then the team galatic boss chalanges you to a battle if you win you go to a room then battle a person then prees a where you battled the guy and uxie azelf and mesprit then go to spear pillar battle dialga use the master ball that the galatic boss gave you to catch dialga then they will go to the three lakes
melovepeas: don't bother catching Dialga with your master ball. If you get his HP down to yellow, you can easily catch him with an ultra ball.
