Find a professional "ultrasonic" service, much the same as jewelry cleaning in which blinds are dipped into a vat of solution and agitated ultrasonically. I was stunned to find how inexpensive it was. My apartment came with 6 large sets (6'x3') of enameled metal mini-blinds. Hand cleaning has always been a nightmare. The big catch is that after cleaning, there is rinsing, and DRYING. Slats tend to stick together once they're wet. The pros charged me $10 per set and threw in minor repairs like replacement bottom bar caps, etc. Well worth it (consider just your time at your hourly wage; then factor in the headache). Good luck.

The best way to clean wood blinds is by placing a sheet under them and wiping them down with a magnet duster. You should never use anything wet to clean them unless it is specifically made for wood.

Cleaning wood shutter blinds is a very time consuming process. First make sure the blinds have been dusted and then use a well wrung out cloth with warm water to run over each slat. If you prefer wood cleaners such as pledge or old english can be used instead of water.

Wooden shutters collect a lot of dirt and grime but there is one perfect way to clean them thoroughly and that is with a vacuum cleaner. Attach the soft brush to the hose of the vacuum clean. Turn the wooden slats up and vacuum them gently. Then turn them down and repeat. Make sure to run the vacuum brush over the tops and bottoms of the shutters.

Never use water to clean wooden shutters as this can affect the color as well as warp them. In between vacuuming, wipe them down with a clean, soft cloth. This will prevent too much dirt from building up and make cleaning them with the vacuum take less time.

What is the best way to clean blinds for windows?

The best way to clean window blinds depends on which type of blinds one has and how much buildup they have. If the buildup is minimal, simply dusting them or taking a lightly damp cloth to them will do. For fabric or vinyl blinds, one could use a dry sponge. For wood blinds a small amount of water may be used. If the blinds are metal, remove them and clean them outside.

What is the best material to look for in wood shutter blinds?

If you could afford it Teak would be the best since it would literally last forever. However it is also extremely expensive. Blinds are made of American Hardwoods. Of these Ash and Cherry are the best in my opinion, but there's not a huge amount of difference so long as you keep them painted.
