Here are answers and opinions from FAQ Farmers: * Yes it is good to go to different websites but my opinion with starting is to go for hands on classes to learn the finer details which is very important. Your preparation with anything is the good end result of your final product. * After a couple of classes when you feel comfortable with the basics of sewing you can use web links for more advance projects and it will only then make more sense to you. * You must first understand what is a flat seems, open seems, top stitching, sewing corners, buttonholes etc. There are a lot of different things which is basic but very important to know, otherwise you'll get frustrated and despondent and stop sewing. *
Hi,
I learned sewing from my mom and going out in the world and learning it my heart let nature glide you along.
You sew a seam in a very straight line. You place the two pieces of fabric with the nice sides towards each other. You may want to pin them in place to hold them. Then you sew along the edge where you want the seam, in a straight line. Usually you choose a "seam allowance", which is the distance from the edge that you sew the seam.
It depends on if you are sewing by hand or with a sewing machine.
If you are doing it by hand, then start with a needle, some thread, a threader and obviously the fabric you will sew. Start by threading your needle with the threader. then take the thread and loop it so that both ends of it are next to each other. tie a firm knot and hold the needle. start inside out of the fabric so that the knot cannot bee seen. push the needle through and sew over and under.
hope this helps...might be a little confusing...

Look in your local yellow pages for tailors or seamstresses. When you call them just ask if they have a machine that can sew heavy patches to a firesuit. You need to get Nomex thread to take to them, and insist they use it. Unless they sew a lot of firesuits, they won't have this.
