Simply put, the more expensive is the better. Your real question should be "Which mac should I get" and you should supply information such as what you'll be using the mac for, why you want a mac, what your price limitations are, etc.
I personally own 3.. A macbook (wifes), macbook pro (mine), and a 24" iMac (family). Without any information on you at all, I would recommend the macbook pro line, probably the cheapest 15 inch available.
With the cheapest 15 inch macbook pro (MBP) you'll find excellent performance, nice screen with great graphics, and an amazing 8 hour battery! Go with the 15 inch if you can afford it, the extra screen space makes all the difference in the world when you ask me.
