Highest in elevation is the Blue Ridge Region. Sassafras Mountain, is South Carolina's highest point at 3,560 feet (1,085 m) is located in this area.

Vimy Ridge is in Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France. The ridge is an escarpment 8 kilometres northeast of Arras on the western edge of the Douai Plains. The ridge gradually rises on its western side dropping more quickly on the eastern side. At approximately 7 kilometres in length and culminating at an elevation of 145 metres or 60 metres above the Douai Plains, the ridge provides a natural unobstructed view for tens of kilometres in all directions.
The highest peaks of the ridge average about 2500 meters below sea level (2.5 kilometers), while Iceland is part of the ridge above sea level. Parts of the ridge are more than 4000 meters below MSL.
