There was a planned upgrade system for the Nintendo 64 known as the 64DD. This expansion would be connected to this port on the bottom of the Nintendo 64 and allow for extra content on some games. On top of this some games were created for the DD however the entire project was considered a failure and it was never fully circulated to the public.
