The preferred term is "ventral" side, which is (in animals that have a spine) the side away from the spine, or in other words the "belly side" (the side the spine is on is the "dorsal" side).
For most four-legged animals in a normal standing or walking position, the dorsal side is the 'top' and the ventral side is the bottom.
