I do not claim this too be accurate - but rather an assumption based on the facts that I *do* have (I will do the appropriate research). But I think that HEROIN was the brand name for diacetylmorphine when it was a legal, OTC drug available without prescription back in the early 1900's - promoted - believe it or not - as a *non-addicting* alternative to Morphine.

I am confident in he accuracy of everything here, except as to whether HEROIN was an actual "official" registered brand name for the drug. As it was outlawed so completely owing to its abuse, I don;t know if it was ever released under a brand name like it is with methamphetamine (Desoxyn, I believe).

If my facts are accurate - then Heroin is the only official brand name for diacetylmorphine, before our demented overlords banned what is without question the most effective opioid analgesic ever designed. Given the legality of substances like Hydro and oxy morphone - which are 3 and 4 time the strength of heroin by weight, and just as addicting and dependence forming - all we have done is remover from the table, the best and most appropriate condiment in the kitchen, simply because it tastes too good, and despite its superior nutritional value
