After he was defeated, the British were able to blockade the United States Navy. Some of the effects of the invasion strategy of 1814 were a small force of British marines burning down the United States capitol. The British failed to take the fort but it was a cause for the writing of "The Star-Spangled Banner." The battle of New Orleans was also a loss for the British in their invasion. As an effect, the United States pride increased tremendously and the British were forced to retreat from that American front as well. The final effect of the invasion of 1814 was the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, which ended the war of 1812 and brought realization to the American's minds. Europe was really no longer a threat to the United States.
