the cassini space crafts mission was too orbit venus and then observe saturns moons
NASA occasionally sends out space probes instead of humans because astronauts could not survive on some of the places that space probes are sent to.
The term "space probe" is normally limited to unmanned (robotic) spacecraft. So, no, space probes do not have people aboard them.
Uma Thurman's character is named Irene Cassini. Cassini is the surname of the 17th century French-Italian astronomer, Jean Dominique Cassini, who discovered the prominent gap in Saturn's main rings, as well as the icy moons, Iapetus, Dione, Rhea, and Tethys. The space mission in Gattaca is destined for Saturn.More facts at: http:/www.sciflicks.com/gattaca/facts.html

Because of the cost of sending fuel and re-entry equipment into space, most robotic space probes are designed to do experiments "on site" after landing on a planey or moon. One exception is the NASA "Stardust" mission launched in 1999. The space craft was launched into a solar orbit that would repeatedly pass near Earth. It was steered into a close encounter with the comet Wild-2 in 2004. Samples from the comet's coma (as well as others from interplanetary space) were returned to Earth by an ejected capsule during a flyby in January, 2006. The craft again passed Earth in January, 2009, enroute to a new photographic mission to the comet Tempel-1 in February, 2011. (Tempel-1 was rammed by the probe Deep Impact in 2005.) The particles captured by Stardust are still being analyzed from the aerogel material returned to Earth. (see mission site at related link)
The Government pays for the Cassini space mission.
Cassini's mission exploring Saturn and its moon will end in 2013.
== == The Cassini space orbiter was part of the Cassini-Huygens mission, a collaborative NASA/ESA/ASI unmanned space mission for the purpose of studying Saturn and its moons.
Actually, there are very many space probes out there, like Cassini, Voyagers 1 and 2, Spirit and Opportunity, Galileo, the Viking Lander, and many more.
Space probes are classified based on their mission's target or the mission's type. Target classifications include lunar, solar, planetary, or interplanetary probes. Mission types include flyby, orbiter, and soft-lander.
Cassini - it's still there and will be for a while.
