Well, it's like the process of mummification. Once the body has died, the sells decay as well, making gases that build up in the body. Creating further decaying of the flesh, but not the bones. BUT, the extreme flashes of hot and cold weather prevents these conditions. Thus a mummy/or a non decayed body will remain there until somthing has caused further damage to the corpse.

There is absolutely no possible way to answer this question. Millions of animals die each year in the desert and the cause may be old age, disease, accident or predation. There are not enough people in the world to watch all animals in a desert and record their deaths.
Decaying matter normally goes to the ground but can be used as fertalizer. Sometimes marshy water, (I think it was something like that) is made up of decaying animals of plants.
