The ancient Egyptians were polytheists like the Ancient Greeks and Romans, meaning they believed in many different gods, each of which had a specific area of authority. In the Old Kingdom each city acknowledged a primary deity. Some gods were more prominent than others, and their prominence vaires over time; probably due to the number of worhipers they had.
Some prominet examples were Aten, Ptah, Bast, and Osiris.
There are several hundred gods recorded in the records that survive from that time period, and probably many more that have no surviving records.
Egypt's ancient religion theology consisted out of four parts:
1. The Divine Pharaoh (The Pharaoh was considered divine)
2. Pantheism (controversial - means that 'God is all and all is God')
3. Atenism (The religion moved from a polytheism to a monotheism, worshipping only Aten)
4. Mythology (Much of this has been lost but we know that it revolved around cosmogony)
Polytheism = Believing in more Gods
Monotheism = Belief in one God
Devine = Godly or heavenly
Mythology = beliefs based only on stories passed down generations
The belief in many gods also it all started with the Sun God Ra
