Noble gases are a category

and exist as a Group (VII or 0) in the Periodic Table. They are helium (He) to radon (Ra)

To add to the above, there are six nobel gases - Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon, Radon - He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, Rn. All have a complete outer energy shell and are considered to be essentially inert, which means they do not react readily with other elements.

Noble gases have completely filled orbitals. They generally have 8 valence electrons (helium has only 2) and have stable electronic configuration. Hence they are chemically inert and are mono atomic.

They have full outer shells of electrons so therefore do not need to bond with other atoms to have a full, stable outer shell.
