People either go to heaven or hell. People in heaven would have endless happiness. People in hell are punished specifically for the persons worst sin and it is endless pain.
The Christian view on death is that the soul leaves the body when you die, and your sins are weighed and judged by God, and you are either sent to Hell if you have had a sinful life, or you go to Heaven if you gave your Life to Jesus when you were alive cause your sins were washed away by His Blood, where you will live forever in God's kingdom.
Christianity's view of death, for Catholics anyways, is when God is ready for you to come into heaven. He takes you from the Earth at a chosen time.

Buddhism regards existence as a series of rebirths until enlightenment is achieved which allows the "soul" an opportunity to escape the cycle of death and re-birth. This is not the same as the Christian or Islamic concept of a one time through life then a life after death in a Heaven or Hell. The question solved from the Buddhist point of view.

Because we know there is life after what moderns call death. Death of the body is not the cessation of existence for the soul.
