Duane Scrod Jr. is framed for the crime but it is really red diamond energy inc. that started the fire they did it to scare off all people from section 22 (a piece of land that belongs to the citizens)but they rightfully own section 21 only. Nick and Marta sneak into Twillys car one day Twilly takes them to the swamp where they meet Ms. Starch. Ms. Starch and Twilly tell them everything that happened and who framed Duane. She shows themthe baby panther and tells about how if the mother of the panther isn't found then the baby can die, because it cant just live on zoo milk and they cant teach it to hunt. Meanwhile, Red Diamond company hires a man-hunting dog to hunt down the person who is terrorizing their plans on section 22. The dog is claimed to be "eaten by a panther" but really Twilly stole the dog. Duane is now fugitive because he is a suspect for the fire. But Twilly needs him to help save the panther he can track things down but now the police are after him so he must hide in Nicks house while his mom is in Washington because of his dad who is now back in the hospital.
Detective Marshal (Libby's dad) goes to the store where a torch, which was found in smokes bag, can be bought. The store had no records of smoke buying it buy the store had credit card numbers. Only two torches where bought by the same person. The day before the fire and 3 days after
the detective looks at video camera tapes from the days they where bought. He doesn't see Smoke in any of the 2 videos
but he sees the same man each time
