Lamentations isn't a "story." It's an ongoing prophecy of the hardships endured byGod's scattered people in the world... begging and pleading for His Grace, Mercy and Forgiveness for their transgressions against Him.

It's generations old, actually.Man's suffering has been going on sinceAdam and Eve chose the wrong god to worship -- and failed to repent of it; blaming God... blamingeach other -- instead of accepting the responsibility for their own actions.

Lamentations is a voicingof WHYGod's people have suffered... and if the world could see it; WHY the world is suffering due to its forsaking of its Creator.

"For Jerusalem sinned so horribly [sin is the breaking ofGod's Commandments- I John3:4]; therefore she is tossed away like dirty rags. All who honored her despise her now, for they have seen her stripped naked andhumiliated. She groans and hides her face." (Lam.1:8 LVB Living Bible)

Lamentations is a timeless warning for all nations to repent and turn to God for their Salvation. And it's a little frightening how accurately it describes America's plight in these last days:

"O Lord, remember all that has befallen us; see what sorrows we must bear! Our homes, our nation, now are filled with foreigners. We are orphans - our fathers dead, our mothers widowed. We must even pay for water to drink; our fuel is sold to us at the highest of prices... Our fathers sinned but died before the hand of Judgment fell. We have borne the blow that they deserved! ...Our glory is gone. The crown is fallen from our head. WOE UPON US FOR OUR SINS... Turn us around and bring us back to you again! That is our only Hope! Give us back the joys we used to have! Or have you utterly rejected us? Are you angry with us still?" (Lam.5 LVB)

That's the climax of Lamentations -- a plea to God to 'turn us around!' For 'THATIS THE ONLY HOPE' for God's people and the nations of the world.

But, as Jeremiah's lamentation is still lamenting to this day... so, do the nations of the world, clinging to their sins, stumble on in their sorrows; seemingly ignorant of the reason for it.
