A rattling trill of 4-6 seconds is the call of the Coastal Plain Toad (Bufo nebulifer, Anaxyrus nebulifer).

Specifically, the voice of the Coastal Plain Toad is similar to that of the American Toad (B. americanus), but at a lower pitch. It also is similar to, but higher in pitch than, the Cane Toad (B. marinus). The call may be heard between March and August, especially after heavy rains.

It is quite an experience to see a Coastal Plain Toad. It has quite a large vocal sac that extends from the mouth all the way to the abdomen.
