Passenger side of engine block, close to the coil pack, probably easier to reach from underneath.
If you have a 2.2L engine in that 98 S10, the coil pack would be attached the the lower portion of the pasenger side of the engine block. It is best reached from underneath.
I believe the Coil Pack grounds itself when mounted. One wire is constant voltage, the other fires the plug.

On the engine block, lower passenger side. Just follow the spark plug wires.

Under the exhaust manifold. You access them by taking off the right front wheel, and going through the wheelwell.
Check condition of the plugs, could also be coil pack(s) going out, if ignition looks good check compression all cylinders
remove the distributor cap remove the screws that attach the pick coil to the base of the distributor and replace in reverse order
