The color of turmeric indicator in sodium hydroxide ( Na(OH) ) is red - brown .
Turmeric become red in contact with a basic solution.
It becomes red
pink or red
it will change to red colour
acidic - magenta basic - no colour change
acidic - magenta basic - no colour change
Turmeric is yellow in acidic and neutral solutions; in basic solutions turmeric is red to brown.
dark pink
I'd suggest (but couldn't establish it from literature) that turmeric powder is yellowish ocra in acidic 'solution', because it gives mustard (made with acetic acid) its yellow color, which is not redish-brown like curcuma is in neutral circumstance.Added:From one scource it says: ' In acidic solutions (pH 8.6) solutions it turns bright red.'
An indicator refers to a substance that changes color to show how a given substance is either acidic or basic.
---- indicators are substances which change their colour when treated with acidic or basic solutions this reaction of changing their colour is known as indicator reaction ---- ----
lime juice and soap solutions turn red in turmeric because turmeric is an organic indicator which turns red in acidic or basic solution and lime juice is an acidic solution while soap is a basic solution
ammonium hydroxide is a basic or alkaline salt & phenolphthelin gives pink colour in basic medium because it is a basic indicator
The phenolphthalein indicator is pink in basic solutions.
phenolphthalien when added to an acidic solution has a colourless indicator. but shows pink colour for basic solution.
