Specifically, the adjective "peppered" refers to the considerable black spotting on this cockroach's otherwise colorful body. Bright colors aside, it can be quite a daunting experience to see the adults of the species. They mature to a length of about 3 inches/7.6 centimeters. A big, broad shield at the top of the thorax manages to cover the roach's head, but not its antennae.
