Water springtail is the common name of the Podura aquatica.

Specifically, the insect is aquatic. It therefore is found on the surfaces of lakes, ponds and puddles. The water surface is a feeding zone by scavenging pollen. The insect's long, flattened tail allows it to jump off the water surface when feeding is done.
