solid = ice
liquid = water
gaseous = water vapour
The change in state from a solid directly to a gas is called sublimation. An example is frozen carbon dioxide which changes directly into gaseous carbon dioxide without going through a liquid phase.
Gas -> Solid = Deposition Solid -> Gas = Sublimation Gas -> Liquid = Condensation Liquid -> Gas = Evaporation Solid -> Liquid = Freezing Liquid -> Solid = Melting Hope that helps. Qualifications: I googled it. You should try sometime ^^ + 1 year Chemistry education
The disadvantage of common names is that they do not tell you the chemical formula. Common names advantages are that non chemists can identify them/
Water cannot exist in gaseous state - water vapour is small droplets of water suspended in air, not water as a gas
According to my chemistry professor, there are 12 MAIN states of matter. Solid Liquid Gas Plasma Superfluid Supersolid Bose-Einstein condensate Fermionic condensate String-net liquid Supercritical fluid Colloid Degenerate matter These are the main states of matter but some of the ones above can be divided into more specific states. Most people say there is 3 states of matter solid, liquid, and gas. you might hear some people include plasma or Bose-Einstein condensate. But you probably never meet someone who knows all 12 main states of matter.
There are no states in Canada, only provinces and territories.
Names
Water vapour (steam) Liquid water (water) Solid water (Ice)
It's is not a very common name in the united states
Examples: argon, nitrogen.
gas -> liquid = condensing liquid -> gas = evaporating liquid -> solid = freezing solid -> liquid = melting solid -> gas= sublimating liquid -> gas= boiling
Each of these states is included in the contiguous United States of America. They have names derived from Indigenous tribal names.

The Outer planets are often referred to as Gaseous planets. The others are the "inner planets" or rocky planets.
Venus and Neptune have a few things in common. Neither of these planets can support human life. Both of them orbit the Sun.
There was really no common pattern. Most of the original states were named after English monarchs and nobility. Most of the middle states names were derived from what the natives called the area or what dominate tribe lived in the area. In the west, most were named by early Spanish explorers.
