The compound lipid is defined as containing two parts - neutral animal fats or plant oils connected to an acid head.

Types:

a. phospholipids (lecithin, cephalin, sphingolipids);

b. glycolipids (cerebrosides, gangliosides, lipoproteins).

Lipids contain C and H atoms in addition to the usual acid head - C, H, and =O.
