It is simply believing that there is only one god named Allah. Allah is the creator of this universe and the only one deserved to be worshiped. The Qura'an is the book of Islam, it has Allah's words. In the Qura'an, the rules of Islam is explained, they are basically asking humans to be honest, respectful of other fellow humans and creatures, and kind to each other. None of the rules are against our natural instincts (like having fun or loving money, the rules just regulates them) therefore they are easy to follow.
Also, a Muslim must follow these 5 basic commandments:
1. The believe in one god (Allah)
2. The believe in his profit
3. To fast ( this is to be equal with the poor)
4. To make zakat ( pay a fee to help other Muslims that are in need)
5. If possible to make haj
