I would say it's a combination of Man vs Man and Man vs Society (although both main characters also had to overcome their limitations and prejudices).
Topol (Israeli actor Haim Topol) played the lead character, Tevye in the 1971 movie. However, his character is a milkman, not the fiddler himself, who appears in the film at strategic points but has no spoken lines.

If you are asking how many years until the remake. That I am not sure of. I heard some rumors of there being a remake, but I pray to God that they ARE NOT TRUE. West Side Story is one of those classic untouchable movies. It's in the category with Gone With the Wind and perhaps even The Seven Year Itch. If they remade it, today's society would ruin everything the movie is about. I believe if they remade it, they would add more violence and make the dances, club scenes. The movie would become racey and I don't think that it would compare to the original... At all.
