Lech lecha is the section of the Book of Genesis where Abram (later to be renamed Abraham) is commanded by God to leave his home in Ur Kaśdim and go to the land of Canaan. God then tells Abram to dwell in this land, which will belong to his descendants. The land of Canaan was later renamed Israel, honouring Abraham's grandson Jacob who was also known by that name.

Zionism is the modern political movement that supports the idea of Jews living in an independent, sovereign, national homeland in the land of Israel. Zionism takes much of its inspiration from Biblical passages connected with the land. Lech Lecha offers several key examples of such passages.
