∙ 11y agoIt is called a funeral supper or memorial supper. My guess the custom loosely dates to the idea, in The Bible of the Last Supper. there was an old joke- the Last Supper was held at Booth Memorial! ( pun intended) Booth Memorial is not a restaurant but is a hospital operated by, and honoring the founder of, the Salvation Army. Still restaurants have booths, get the joke. Last Supper at Booth Memorial!

( Booth memorial is actually a Hospital operated by the Salvation Army and named in honor of the Booth Family that founded the organization. Not a Booth in a restaurant.

∙ 7y agoThe party after a funeral is known as the Wake. Some societies use different terms, even holding the Wake, attended by close family only, before the funeral. Some will say that the after-funeral party is a luncheon.
