A standard box of 5 patches (100 micrograms NOT milligrams) costs on average around $300 US if you don't have any insurance to pay for it. That's for Duragesic - generic Fentanyl patches may be lower.
I just bought 3 boxes of the name brand Duragesic 25 mcg/hr which is a total of 15 patches, a month supply for me as prescribed by my Dr, and the cost was $397.00. The generic is much cheaper, but I tried the name brand this month because my Dr told me they stick much better, plus they adhere to your skin way better. My insurance is covering at 100% right now so I am fortunate. There is no way I could pay for it otherwise.
CPT code for Duragesic Patch
Yes, it is. Or It has been fine for me. I have been on the two for 5 years now. Over time you will need to increase the dosage of both. The 'Duragesic Patch' goes up to 100 mg.
The best is still the original - Duragesic (brand name) made by Janssen Pharmaceuticals.
depends on the hospital "rules"--which change every day depending on what has happened there. duragesic still have fentanyl in the patch after a few days. a hospital worker could just slap one on after taking it off a patient.
The patches come in 12 mcg/h, 25 mcg/h, 50 mcg/h, 75 mcg/h, and 100 mcg/h strengths. The generic of Duragesic is Ratio-Fentanyl and about one-third the cost.
Yes - if you request that your doctor enter "Brand Name Only" on your prescription, and ask him to prescribe Duragesic rather than generics, Duragesic boxes come with a $50 coupon that you can use at your pharmacy. You can also download them from their site. It's enough for me as it pays my copay for them every month.
133 a box of ten "generic". 5 in a box
Duragesic patches do - you can get a $50 coupon for your prescription from the Duragesic site, and they often include them in the boxes. For me it's enough to take care of my copay.
can you use lidocaine patches to keep fentyanyl patches one
The link to the Duragesic Conversion Tables is below.
The Fentanyl patches by over twice the margin.120mg of oral morphine every 8 hours is equal to 360mg per day of oral morphine (24hr period). The Fentanyl patch equivalent dose (Duragesic for comparison purposes) is a single 100mcg Fentanyl patch.
Bandages no--Bioclusive yes(see below) The reason is a band aid or tape does not allow air to pass through. So the skin is starved of oxygen and the medicine begins to degrade and redden the skin. You will end up with a big red welt that can take days to go away. The increased heat is negligible as far as dosage delivery. Ortho-Janssen Pharmaceuticals (the makers of Duragesic) have long offered a large transparent bandage (Bioclusive, made by Johnson and Johnson) that fits over the 100mcg patch for those having patch adhesion problems. Bioclusive patches are provided to Duragesic patients only, but you can buy them online or through a pharmacy. They're not cheap though - about $100 per box of 50.
