Can a convicted felon become an EMT in Missouri?

EMT's are generally governed by a state commission. While rules vary from state to state, most frown on convicted felons becoming certified as EMT's. Some commissions will treat it on a case by case basis. Generally, if your offense involved violence or a narcotics offense your chances are very slim.

Do you have to go to school to become certified for an emt job?

To become a certified EMT, you will need to finish High School, or have your GED. You will start out the certification process by taking and completing an EMT-I training Program. The program will teach you the basics of what to do in an emergency. After that, you have to complete the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam on the computer. Finally, you can apply for your license and certification through the state where you will be employed. Usually, you have to get re-register every 2 years to keep your certification. Can you work as an EMT if you have been arrested but do not have a trial yet and are therefore not formally charged?

If your employer is not aware of your felony arrest you would well advised to notify them. As far as I know, EMT's are licensed by a state certifying board, and you might find youself in violation of your oath of office if you don't notify them of your legal difficulty.. The probablity is that you may be suspended from duty until such time as the legal problems are ironed out, but if you don't notify them, you are placing your EMT certificate at risk.
