Unlike a sports hernia, a hiatal hernia affects the core, often in the diaphragm or the abdomen directly. In many cases, there are actually no symptoms for this type of hernia. That said, others may have heartburn related to gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD. Surgery is often needed because the hernia can become restricted and blood supply to that affected area can be restricted or cut off entirely.
strangulated hernia
Hernias occur when a weakness in the wall of the abdomen allows an organ, usually the intestines, to bulge out of place. Hernias may result from a genetic predisposition toward this weakness. They can also be the result of weakening the muscle.

The different kinds of hernia are listed below: * Congenital hernia: occur in babies, present from birth. * Inguinal hernia: common in sportsmen, involves part of the bowel protrudibng into the groin * Hiatus hernia: involves the stomach, where it enters the chest cavity via the hiatus. * Incarcerated hernia: where the hernia has swollen up. * Reducible hernia: one that can be manipulated back into place easily, much like a dislocated joint can be repositioned with relative ease. * Irreducible hernia: can't be returned to its original position without surgical intervention. * Strangulated hernia: potentially fatal, as it means the bood supply has been cut off by the hernia. There are even more types, each with their own subtle variations. These can be viewed from the link. [source: adapted from First Aid, by Geddes and Grosset]

you cannot repair a fiberglass top on a jeep if it has been cut, only replacing it will give it a true seal and look new.

No hernia is good. Never the less this type of hernia is not as dangerous as femoral or indirect inguinal hernia. Agree with the above comment, but you should have a physician (doctor) take a look at it to make sure it is not dangerous. Some hernias can get a loop of intestine stuck in them and the blood supply can get cut off from it which is a medical emergency. Obviously, no one wants that to happen, so the best thing to do is get examined early on while it's not a problem and see if it needs to be fixed.
