What is the daily life like in a monastery?

Life in a monasteries was very quiet. Monks and nuns (residents of the monasteries) would wake up at 5am in the morning to say their prayers. Some monks and nuns would take care of the sick and old people, some would copy out precious or rare manuscript.They would sleep i dormitories with other monks or nuns. They should only have a mattress, blanket and pillow on their beds. They should not get married or have sexual relationships, and are supposed to only eat simple food (no meat) and wear simple clothes. They should help educate the children and should give shelter and food to travellers.They should ALL live as POOR people.However, monasteries were given lots of money and land by rich barons and they were very wealthy.
