Canada's Thanksgiving was first celebrated as a national holiday in 1879, but it was not until 1957 that the Canadian Parliament officially declared the second Monday in October as Thanksgiving Day. Since then, it has been recognized as a separate holiday distinct from the American Thanksgiving.
