The budda was born in the year 563 BC. While traveling he encountered death and pain. After this he travled for 6 years. One day while sitting under a tree a great understanding came over him and Buddhism was started. The year he was sitting under that tree was 528 BC so I think that is when Buddhism started.

There are no documents or exact details on the founding of Buddhism so we have no exact dates. All that is know is that it was founded between the 6th and 4th century BCE and that Siddahrta Gautama (known as the historical Buddha) died around 460 BCE.
