An azalea is a flowering bush or shrub, either of two subgenera of the genus Rhododendron. They differ in many respects from the other types of rhododendron, most notably forming single flowers instead of groups. An azalea plant will usually create all of its blooms during a single short period.

Azaleas can be poisonous to horses, goats, and other animals.

NOTE

The term "azalea poisoning" is also a term for food-borne infections by Bacillus cereus.

This has no relation to the plant.
