Best Answer

Fur is the soft thick hairy coat of certain mammals. Not all mammals have fur: elephants, dolphins and people do not. The harder coarser coats of such animals as cows, deer and horses are not usually thought of as fur. Fur usually involves two layers of hair, a coarser overlayer and a soft fluffy underlayer which insulates the animal.
