one example of a physical change of matter is an ice cube melting into a puddle of water. Physically, it looks different; but, if you put the water back into the freezer, it's still an ice cube! Anytime an object changes appearance or shape without becoming a new object, it is undergoing a physical change.

Physical change is a reversible change that affects the physical property of form but not the identity of matter.

Physical change, is in comparison to a chemical change. A chemical change is one in which the chemical composition, not just the physical characteristics, of the substance changes through a chemical reaction (e.g. burning a piece of paper).

Physical change means changes in size, shape, color, mass, volume...usually in constrast with chemical change - for instance, the process of rusting where an element iron turns into compound with hydrate.
