Why the unit of density is called derived unit?

Density is not a derived unit.. It is a physical quantity and hence is a derived quantity.. the unit of density kgm-3 or gcm-3 is a derived unit because it can be expressed as the quotient of base units. In general, a unit is said to be derived if it can be expressed as the product and/or quotient of base units.

What is the base unit of density?

In the SI system the unit is kg/m3; in practice g/cm3 is used.

How many trees are cut down to make a road?

The question is too vague. It really depends on the type of forest and how big the road is. If you knew the average density of trees in a particular type of forest and knew how many acres of land you'd need to clear to build the road, you could multiply the two and get an estimate of the number of trees you'd have to clear to build the road.

How do you find mass if you you have volume and density?

the units of density are mass/volume so anything that gives you those variables. A scale and graduated cylinder be used if you fill the cylinder with water and the monitor the displacement of the water. 1ml of water is equal to 1 cubic cm (thats volume)

How do you find diameter of cylinder if pressure at base is given?

You can't. In addition to the cylinder's diameter, the pressure at its base also depends on the density and depth of the fluid in the cylinder ... which gives you the weight of fluid resting on the base area. The pressure alone is not enough information to allow you to calculate the diameter.
