There is a type of DVD called DVD-RAM. It is rewritable, and supports up to 100,000 rewrites, as opposed to 1,000, for the +rw, and -rw standard. It also has greater error correction ability. DVD-RAM can act like a slow hard drive, in that you can write files directly to the disk, as well as delete individual files.
I myself have not seen many DVD drives that support DVD-ram, most likely because the media is expensive, not widley avalible, and exceeds the need of the average user.
The difference between a DVD-R and a DVD-RW is:
DVD-R: These are recordable DVDs that you can record from VHS tapes, computer as data discs, etc. However, once you record something on it, it remains like that (in other words, you can't delete what's on the disc), you can't re-record on this type of disc.
DVD-RW: It's the same as DVD-R except you can erase what's on the disc and record it again. It's as many times s you want.
Note: DVD-R are much less expensive to get than DVD-RW.
A DVD-Rom only reads from DVD's (watch movies) & CD's (music games) but does NOT write or create DVD or CD's. A CD-RW (writer) Does NOT read DVD's but does read all CD types and can write to CD-R's or CD-RW's you may want to check what kind CD-R+ or CD-R-. A combination drive known as DVD-RW does all of the above.
A DVD-RW disc is a rewritable optical disc with equal storage capacity to a DVD-R, typically 4.7 GB. RW discs are can be written to and erased many times, they are both readable and writeable.
Pre-recorded DVDs are mass-produced using molding machines that physically stamp data onto the DVD. Such discs are known as DVD-ROM, because data can only be read and not written nor erased.
Just logig to this ........you will get more than what you need.

A DVD writer can only write once, you can not write over. Rewriter allows you to write or record over.
The difference between the DVD-R and DVD-Ram is that, DVD-R does Writing and Reading of information and DVD-Ram does Reading only.
they are the same
DVDROM Drives are read only, these do not have the ability to write discs
No. You can't...Im looking for an answer to the next question...what can I replace it with in my P3 Thinkpad ?????
