The related link has an excellent answer to your question. Summed up they are caused by 2 different viruses; Genital Herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) and genital warts are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). HSV-2 causes blisters and HPV causes warts.
The main difference is the signs and symptoms for both differ widely. Herpes symptoms will cause sores or blisters to appear in your genital area, whereas genital warts will cause warts to appear in and around your genital area.

Genital herpes:

- usually painful and may be extremely painful if you mess with it (scratch, squeeze, etc.)

- a white pus might come out when you pop it out

- you may experience fever and the likes when you have an outbreak

- usually comes in blisters, but may appear singular as well

- there's no cure for herpes so you can always experience new outbreak when your antibody fail to keep them in check

Genital wart:

- not painful but it's usually a bit itchy

- cannot be squeezed nor be popped out (i'm not sure if you can forcefully try to pop it out..but if you try to pop it out with little force like acne, it won't fall off)

- wart is solid, not liquid

- there's no cure for the virus but your antibody can clear up the HPV infection by itself within 1-2 years time, sometimes take longer. You won't experience new outbreak once your antibody has forced the virus to stay dormant

- there's a HPV vaccine for people who haven't been infected by the virus yet
No. Genital warts and genital herpes are two completely different viruses. They are both viral STDs, but they are caused by different viruses.

And herpes is like a cold sore and warts is like the warts you get on your fingers... they are variants of the viruses that cause the two respectively.

Genital herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus. Herpes simplex virus also includes cold sores, chickenpox, shingles, and a few others. Genital herpes causes painful, itchy blisters on the penis, on the vulva, or inside the vagina. Blisters may also appear on the anus, buttocks, thighs, or scrotum, either alone or in clusters. The blisters can break and become shallow, painful, oozing sores.

As for genital wart, it can't be squeezed nor be popped out gently. It's solid and no white pus would come out if by any case you forcefully pop it out. A genital wart is not painful but may itch.

No; it is not the same.
No, genital warts is a different infection than Herpes. They're both a virus, but very different. It can be confusing because some people call Genital Warts "HPV", and Herpes "HSV".
Herpes and genital warts are not the same disease.
They are different viruses. HPV causes genital warts and Cervical cancer. The viruses have different symptoms. Warts can look like patches of raised bumps. HSV causes oral and genital herpes, these look more like raised itchy blisters or open sores. Herpes often causes more pain full symptoms then warts.
Genital herpes (HSV-2) and HPV (genital warts) are both caused by viruses. HSV causes sores and HPV causes small warts. Both viruses can cause clusters of blisters and warts. For women, the HPV infection is worse than the HSV infection.

What is the difference between HPV and genital herpes and can both cause cancer?

HPV (human papillomavirus) causes all kinds of warts -- on your hands, feet, knees, and genitals. Some subtypes of HPV cause genital warts; a few high risk types can cause cancer, including cancer of the cervix, anus, penis, vulva, head, and neck. The types of HPV that cause warts are not the types that cause cancer. Genital Herpes is caused by a herpetic virus, is not related to warts, and is not linked to cancer like HPV is. However, having genital herpes AND HPV increases your risk of cancer from the HPV virus.
