The related link has an excellent answer to your question. Summed up they are caused by 2 different viruses; Genital Herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) and genital warts are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). HSV-2 causes blisters and HPV causes warts.
The main difference is the signs and symptoms for both differ widely. Herpes symptoms will cause sores or blisters to appear in your genital area, whereas genital warts will cause warts to appear in and around your genital area.

Genital herpes:

- usually painful and may be extremely painful if you mess with it (scratch, squeeze, etc.)

- a white pus might come out when you pop it out

- you may experience fever and the likes when you have an outbreak

- usually comes in blisters, but may appear singular as well

- there's no cure for herpes so you can always experience new outbreak when your antibody fail to keep them in check

Genital wart:

- not painful but it's usually a bit itchy

- cannot be squeezed nor be popped out (i'm not sure if you can forcefully try to pop it out..but if you try to pop it out with little force like acne, it won't fall off)

- wart is solid, not liquid

- there's no cure for the virus but your antibody can clear up the HPV infection by itself within 1-2 years time, sometimes take longer. You won't experience new outbreak once your antibody has forced the virus to stay dormant

- there's a HPV vaccine for people who haven't been infected by the virus yet
