LASIK is a surgical procedure to correct vision. It is an acronym which stands for Laser Assisted Stromal In-situ Keratomileusis. This is what is actually done in a LASIK procedure. LASIKplus is a branding or marketing name given to a corporate group of centers which have as their main business purpose to perform LASIK surgery. There is no real plus or anything different that these centers are able to do than any other LASIK provider. The real company behind LASIKplus (or LASIK+) is LCA-Vision which trades under the stock ticker LCAV. Perhaps they believed that the name LCAV was not appealing enough to the public, so they opened centers with the LASIKplus moniker.

All LASIK involves two steps, first to make a flap and then to use a laser to reshape the cornea. The most advanced treatment option is to also use a laser of a different type to make the flap. Many centers have these capabilities. It is best for patients to seek a doctor, not a corporate entity whom they trust with their eyes and their vision. This trust should be based on that doctor's own reputation and experience. Many corporate centers hide behind the corporate name, with multiple doctors available to perform procedures. These centers quote statistics based on the overall performance of all of their doctors, but what is most important is the care given to an individual patient by their own doctor.

Some of my colleagues who perform the LASEK procedure do so b/c of the slight reduction in complications seen (since there is no corneal flap created in this procedure). The downside to LASEK is not only that the healing time takes longer but that the healing process may be more uncomfortable than LASIK. In fact, some surgeons have noted that LASEK is more uncomfortable and has a longer healing time than PRK. For that reason, I perform LASIK and PRK, not LASEK at my practice. If you're interested in LASEK, I would suggest researching PRK. There is much more information out there about PRK and the two procedures are very similar. The only difference is that, in PRK, the outer epithelial cells of the cornea are removed before the laser treatment is performed while, with LASEK, the outer epithelial cells are loosened with an alcohol solution and then lifted in a pseudo-flap. From that point on, the procedures are identical. Hope that helps!

Where is it possible to talk to someone about lasikplus treatment?

LASIK is an alternative type of eye surgery for vision correction, and LASIKplus is a subtype. Although plenty of introductory level information can be found online at health or vision oriented sites, it is recommended that anyone seriously interested in LASIK speak to a medical professional. Eye doctors or primary care physicians are a good first choice, with follow up by practitioners that actually perform the procedure.

What is the difference between PRK eye surgery and LASIK?

PRK and LASIK are very similar. LASIK has a tiny blade that cuts the cornea. On the other hand, PRK doesn't do this. PRK uses a laser to reshape the cornea without cutting it.

Which is better and more cost effective, PRK or Lasik eye surgery?

The cost difference on the two surgeries is not much depending on what type of surgery you need for your eye. The difference between the two is that the PRK is more uncomfortable and takes a lot longer for results where the Lakik the difference is almost right away. What is the difference between Lasik and Contoura vision?

While the conventional LASIK surgery maps only 200 points on the cornea, the Contoura vision surgery maps 22000 points on cornea. Fewer complications: Contoura vision surgery has fewer complications as compared to conventional LASIK surgery. The damage to the tissue is relatively less and has faster healing time.

How is PRK different than Lasik eye surgery?

There are a few differences between PRK and Lasik eye surgery. PRK was the first laser surgery used to correct vision. The main difference between the two is that it usually takes longer to recover from PRK surgery. With Lasik surgery a small hinged flap is made on the cornea, and with PRK the entire surface of the cornea is removed and therefore takes longer to recover.

What is the difference between Lasik and PRK?

LASIK and PRK are both laser procedures that correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia. The main difference between the two is the following: LASIK uses a microtome knife or laser to create a flap followed by use of an Eximer laser to ablate the corneal tissues. PRK, on the other hand, uses a sterile brush or laser to scrape away the surface corneal epithelial cells, followed by use an Excimer laser to ablate and reshape the corneal tissue. Although PRK takes longer to heal and produces more discomfort than LASIK, it is an ideal surgery for patients with thin corneas and large pupils.
