The offline UPS is in standby mode. The charger is maintaining the battery, but the inverter stage is not running. Power goes from input to output, bypassing the inverter. In this configuration, the charger and inverter design is less, as the charger is usually in trickle mode and the inverter does not need to run continuously. On power fail, the inverter starts up and takes the load. There is a glitch in output, a few line cycles, but most loads can handle this. The online UPS runs all the time. The charger now runs the inverter, as well as maintaining charge on the battery. The inverter supplies the load. Power goes from input to charger to inverter to output. In this configuration, the charger and inverter design is more, as they need to run continuously. On power fail, there is no glitch, because the inverter is already running and supplying the load. Usually, there is synchronization between the inverter and the line, so that failure of the inverter can initiate fall-back to the line without glitch.

On-line: The power from your primary supply typically is charging batteries that are then supplying DC voltage that is converted to AC to power your equipment. Hence if the primary power is removed the battery continues to power the equipment with no lapse.

Off-line: Requires some type of switch over when a power outage is detected. It could be a switch over to a battery supplied power source that had been charging from the primary power, or a generator that starts and then is switched to power the load.

Difference between online and Offline UPS?

An off-line UPS remains idle until a power failure occurs, and then switches from utility power to its own power source, almost instantaneously. An on-line UPS continuously powers the protected load from its reserves (usually lead-acid batteries or stored kinetic energy), while simultaneously replenishing the reserves from the AC power. The on-line type of UPS, in addition to providing protection against complete failure of the utility supply, provides protection against all common power problems, and for this reason it is also known as a power conditioner and a line conditioner. What is the Difference between uninteruptible power supply and generator?

The UPS uses batteries to supply power when you have a power failure. There are two main types 1) Switched where the voltage is not applied until the power company voltage is removes and 2) continuous where batteries are continually being charged and running an inverter to supply AC. A generator takes several seconds to come to speed after a power failure is detected. Hence a generator is fine for things like lighting and house hold appliances, but not for computers if you value your data. In an optimum system a UPS may be backed up by a generator since the batteries in an UPS typically are not designed to provide backup power for a long period.

What are advantages in THREE phase UPS over SINGLE phase UPS?

You need to match the UPS to the service. If it is three phase you need a three phase UPS, and vice versa for single phase. It isn't a case of being better, it is a situation where you need to match your application.

What is the difference between ac ups and dc ups?

DC voltage is a constant direction of current flow, it can be a constant amount or very (as long as it never changes direction it is DC). AC voltage is in the form of a sine wave (that will change direction of current flow) so at any specific instant of time you could measure a different voltage as it goes through its cycle.

What is the difference between online ups and offline ups?

Simple Explanation:Online UPS is an uninterruptible power supply that has no cut-off or sudden interruption during the switch-over transition of the power used to bypass or to battery source while Offline UPS has a momentary cut-off that could affect the protected loads during the transition.

What are Block diagrams for online and offline UPS?

Online UPS is a power supply that is not interrupted during the switch-over of the power. There is a short cut-off on the offline UPS which can have an effect on affected loads during transition.

What are two main types of ups?

Types of UPS1. Standby UPSStandby UPS is then used. When the power supply shuts down. Then it supplies the consumed power to the computer when the power is off. In which the computer's data is safe.2. Line Interactive UPSDesigning a Line Interactive UPS is similar to a standby UPS. It is a combination of both UPS online and offline. This UPS is used for small businesses. And at the same time it controls the electrical effect of the UPS output.3. Standby Online HybridStandby on-line hybrid is a topology used in UPS under 10 kva. Which is switched on from battery to standby converter. The battery charger is much smaller than it is in Stand by UPS

What is the difference between single and three phase on line UPS?

The difference between a single and a three phase online UPS is a 3 phase can supply a 100% unbalanced load on its output without affecting its performance. A single phase cannot supply a 100% unbalanced load on the output without affecting its performance.

Why does Modern Warfare 3 keep reseting the offline profiles?

It aint MW3 fault, because ur info is stored online, and not on ur console, when ur offline, u cant get any level ups, because the info is not being transmitted to the master server.

What battery does Uninterruptible power supply use?

Usually a SLA Battery (12 or 24 Volt) with Capacity depending on "up time" after loss of power and if it is an "online" or "offline" UPS. See Wikipedia
