BCU is Body Control Unit while ECU is Engine Control Unit. BCU can be found behind the glove box in the dashboard while ECU and is located near the air filter, under bonnet.

There is a difference in the wiring and ECU between 96 and 97. I don't have a wiring diagram for them, but I believe most haynes manuals should have it. The 97 harness and ECU is a much more desirable setup if you intend to tune the engine since the 96 ECU is not supported by any aftermarket tuning programs.
sensors sense how things are running, to see if anything needs to be adjusted, send info to ECU, ECU then sends info to actuator then the actuators does something to deal with the problem... sensors - input, actuators - output.
There's no physical difference between a Porsche Turbo and a Porsche Turbo S beside the ECU tuning. Many of the options you would pay for on the non "S" version are standard on the Turbo "S"

Usually nothing. They usually both refer to replacing the vehicle's ECU. Buyer beware: Many "performance chips" are ripoffs.
