What is the difference between the 80GB Playstation 3 and the 80GB Playstation 3 core system?

they both got wifi, 40gb got 2 usb port, no backward compatible for ps2 games and 60gb got 4 usb port, fully backward compatible for ps1 and ps2 games by using the emotion engine, also the 60gb will hold more things such as saved game data, pictures, song and videos etc.

∙ 12y agoThey are not just one model of either PS3 and have other differences besides the harddrive size. The following summary of different PS3 models will provide some.
The 20 GB PS3 could play PS2 games and so could the 60 GB model that was released with it and those machines are called the first generation PS3 Models. The second Generation PS3 model were the 60 GB Model and the 80 GB model and while they could play the PS2 games it was based on Partially software-based PS2 emulation while the earlier models were Hardware-based PS2 emulation. These 1st and 2nd generation PS3 models all included 4 USB ports and also had Flash memory card readers. The 3rd generation of PS3 models had the 40 GB, the 80 GB, and the 160 GB Harddrives but only 2 USB ports and do not play PS2 games with backward compatibility. The fourth Generation of PS3s are the 120 GB and 250 GB PS3 slim model which do not play PS2 games with Backward Compatibility. All PS3 models play PlayStation 1 Games and do so through software emulation.

∙ 13y agothe ps3 thick can't hold as much memory as thin but the ps3 slim is slimmer but cannot play ps2 and ps1 games like the ps3 thick can, slim ps3 can hold 120 and 250gb i think ps3 thick can only go upto 80gb

It came with 4 USB slots, 4 memory card readers (located in the black overhang that is left of the disk drive), one sixaxis controller (not dualshock.. they are not as heavy because they don't have a vibrating motor so they don't vibrate), and the ability to read playstation 2 disks. i have not tried a psOne game, but i am pretty sure that it is capable of it. my friend has an 80gb playstation 3 and his cannot play the older playstation games. if you do have a 60gb ps3, then it will not play them unless you download something from the playstation store. you have to download "ps2 system data" or something like that. i have also tried downloading the system software on my friends 80gb and it still said that the ps2 disk was an unsupported disk. so all i know is that the old 60gb does and the old 80gb doesnt.
