They are both four stringed instruments of about the same size. The ukulele has a sound box and the banjolele is a skin surface. The banjolele was created to project the sound better.
No, they are very different. There is a hybrid of the two, called the Banjolele or Banjo Uke.
A banjolele is a stringed instrument that combines the ukulele with the banjo. It provides more volume than a standard ukulele and was very popular in vaudeville.
He played a variety of different types of ukulele and is famous for his banjolele, though he used a standard ukulele in a number of movies.
Have you even heard of the ukulele banjolele???
Pretty much it is the same way. If the instrument is strung the same way (mine is) you get the same chords and notes from the same string fret combinations. The banjolele tends to be louder. Many use a different strumming technique then they would on a standard ukulele.
The shape is different, but there is no reason a ukulele couldn't have the same shape. The ukulele is normally smaller then a mandolin. The tuning is different as well.

It will depend on the condition of the ukulele, but banjo ukes do very well on eBay. I recently sold one for over $150 and it was not in perfect shape, but certainly playable and sounded good. I made a video so that they could hear the banjolele before they purchased it.
No, though some can be used for both depending on the size and type. Metal strings are seldom used on an ukulele as the instrument is not designed for the stress.
A ukulele is played by strumming the strings, which are in a flat across arrangement. A violin is played using a rosined bow pulled and pushed across the strings, which are in a curved arrangement.
The ukulele is smaller and has only 4 strings.
If it has 8 strings, why do you think it is a ukulele? Typically an ukulele only has 4 strings. It could be doubled up, they do have 8 string ukuleles. These are typically called a banjolele. Without a lot more information, it would be difficult to value. Look for a maker's name inside the body, or on the head. A good reference would be a forum on the net that works with stringed instruments. And you could browse the TikiKing database for ukulele makers and see if one is pictured.
